After your procedures
Permanent Eyeliner:
The permanent eyeliner healing process is known to be the easiest of all permanent makeup healing. That probably comes as a surprise. As long as you are in good health and have chosen the right artist, you can expect swift, easy, and safe healing. We’re going to go over how your permanent eyeliner will look as it’s healing and the two most common and popular methods of permanent eyeliner aftercare.

What shouldn’t you do after permanent eyeliner application?
During your initial healing stage, you should avoid scratching and touching the treated area, exposure to moisture, and letting any unnecessary products or irritants near your eyes. This can include creams, saline eye drops, lash serums, and eye makeup. Most people need to avoid things like these for the first 10 days during the permanent eyeliner aftercare process, but this differs for everyone.
Here are examples of the things you should avoid while you’re healing:

-
Getting cosmetic treatments like Botox, facials, and any lash treatments like lash perms
-
Engaging in activities and areas that involve steam (like gyms and saunas), water (like swimming and hot tubs), or sweat (like exercising)
-
Going anywhere that’s dusty and can expose the area to bacteria
-
Exposing the treated area to direct sunlight or tanning beds
-
Applying harsh exfoliants like salicylic acid or glycolic acid
-
Using eyelash curlers on your lashes
-
Sleeping on your face
-
Wearing contacts
-
Scratching or rubbing the treated area

Can I shower?
You can take quick showers to avoid exposing the treated area to too much steam. When you’re showering, minimize exposure to hot water and any continuous exposure to water to the area.
Can I wash my face?
You can wash your face as long as you’re gentle and avoid the treated area. You can wash your face normally after the first few days. We recommend using a gentle facial cleanser.
Can I wear contact lenses?
We recommend wearing glasses for at least five days after your treatment. The swelling and itching you’ll experience in the beginning can make contacts uncomfortable.
How do I take care of my eyes after permanent eyeliner?
You can take care of your eyes by regularly cleaning the area, protecting your eyes from sun exposure, and ultimately following your makeup artist’s aftercare instructions. You should also dispose of old products, like eye makeup, and get new ones to avoid bacterial contamination. We’ll go more in-depth below:
-
Follow your prescribed cleaning schedule to prevent infections and to allow the treated area to breathe.
-
Continue using the healing gel as prescribed.
-
Use disposable ice packs and sleep with your head slightly elevated to reduce swelling during the first couple of days.
-
Wear sunglasses or a hat to protect your eyes outdoors.
-
Use new eye makeup when you’re able to wear makeup. This minimizes contamination from your old makeup.
-
Use a new pillowcase to minimize infection.
-
Get new contact lenses if possible to prevent infections.
Day 1: You’ll love your new eyeliner!
Your eyeliner color is approximately 30% darker than it will be when it’s healed. It will also appear slightly larger than it will heal in just a few days. This is due to color oxidation as well as a small amount of swelling and it is a normal part of your healing process. You will have no trouble driving home and going about the rest of your day normally. It’s unlikely that anyone will notice you’ve had your eyeliner permanently done except for possibly those you know very well.
Days 2-3: Your color will darken temporarily as the pigment oxidizes and thin scabs will form.
You may wake up slightly puffy but you can remedy this by sleeping on an incline or applying a cool compress. Your eyeliner will feel tight and dry, but not painful.
Days 3-5: Your eyeliner will begin flaking until there is no scabbing left.
You want to allow healing to shed naturally. Once all scabbing has finished flaking, it is common for the color to appear lighter than it will eventually heal. This lighter color is only temporary as your freshly healed skin is hiding the true color underneath. Over the next several weeks your eyeliner color will bloom.
Day 42: At 6 weeks your eyeliner is fully healed.
It’s now okay for you to come back in for your follow up. Any adjustments such as darkening the color or altering the shape can be done at this appointment.
Permanent Eyeliner Aftercare: Wet Healing vs Dry Healing
Here are the two most popular aftercare methods that permanent eyeliner artists are using:
Dry Heal
Dry healing was the most popular before wet healing existed. Dry healing is how it sounds. You’ll keep your permanent eyeliner dry at all times. After your permanent eyeliner appointment you won’t touch your eyeliner at all. You’ll let your eyeliner heal on its own.
PROS: There’s nothing for you to do and there’s no aftercare kit required.
CONS: You’ll have heavy scabbing during healing and your color won’t heal evenly.
Wet Heal
Wet healing is how most permanent eyeliner artists have their client’s heal today. Your artist will have you clean your eyeliner every 15 minutes following your appointment. Depending on your artist’s preference, you’ll do this for 2 to 3 days. You’ll also use an eyeliner healing gel to keep your eyeliner from drying out.
PROS: You’ll have no scabbing and your color will heal much more evenly.
CONS: You’ll have some work to do and an aftercare kit to keep on you.
Dry healing is still a common method even though wet healing has proven to have the most promising healed results. You can speak with your artist about their healing method and what they’d like from you when healing.

Microblading:

-
NO water, cleansers, creams, makeup or any other products on treated area for at least 12 days.
-
In the rare instance that the area has been weeping clear fluid – 6 hours after the procedure, very gently clean the area by dabbing with sterile water on a cotton pad, gauze or cotton bud. Allow to air dry.
-
DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any crusting or dry skin exfoliate naturally. Picking may cause scarring.
-
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 6 weeks after procedure.
-
Avoid heavy sweating (i.e. gym workouts) for the first 2 weeks.
-
NO facials, botox, chemical treatments and/or microdermabrasion for 6 weeks.
-
Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.
-
Should the brow area skin feel tight – you may apply a thin coating of the healing balm supplied (OR Bepanthen, Grapeseed, Jojoba, Sweet Almond or Coconut oil) only after 7 days – and only if necessary. Dry healing provides the best result.
Please note:
– Eyebrows will initially appear darker and bolder due to natural crusting for the first 10 to 12 days. This is very common for all permanent cosmetic procedures.
– The eyebrows may appear to have ‘nothing left’ once the crust has exfoliated – please be patient. The macrophage process pulls the pigment into the deeper tissues while it tries to expel the ‘foreign substance’ – this is perfectly normal and the pigment will usually ‘bloom back’ to the surface of the skin within 21 days.
It is very important to make a follow-up appointment for 6 weeks after the initial procedure in order to refine the new permanent eyebrows. This will ensure a beautiful and pleasing result is achieved and will increase longevity of the new brows.

Dermaplaning:

Avoid direct sun exposure
You must stay out of the sun for at least 3 days post treatment and then use a high factor sunscreen in order to protect your skin.
Avoid using scrubs for 1 week
Do not use any products on your face which contain exfoliating ingredients for at least 1 week to avoid irritating your skin any further.
Avoid any makeup application
Do not wear any makeup for at least 24 hours post treatment. Also, you must avoid any other facial treatments for at least 2 weeks after your dermaplaning.
Follow a simple skincare routine after your treatment
After your dermaplaning treatment, you need to follow a simple skincare routine for 2 weeks. Instead of using any harsh cleaning products, use a very mild cleanser to clean your face. Also, you should apply moisturizers as well as skin serums, especially those with hyaluronic acid, after the treatment.
You need to avoid using any products that contains aggressive ingredients such as Retinol or harsh acids.
Do not engage in any strenuous exercise
You should avoid strenuous exercises for at least 24 hours post treatment. It is also important to avoid the use of steam rooms or saunas.
Avoid any contact with chlorine
Try to avoid any contact with chlorine (swimming pools, Jacuzzi) for at least 3 days post treatment.
